BlackBerry Torch 9850 and Bold 9930 land on Sprint
AT&T wasn’t the only one kicking off a new BlackBerry this weekend. Sprint also unloaded their Bold 9930 and Torch 9850 as planned yesterday, selling ‘em for $199.99 and $149.99, respectively (both on contract and after mail-in rebates.
The two of them are fairly similar when it comes to specs; they both have 1.2 GHz processors, 768 MB of RAM, sharper displays than ever before on a RIM handset, magnetic compasses to support augmented reality apps, and finally OpenGL support for 3D graphics. The Bold 9900 does have the added bonus of near-field communications, which is a feature that other carriers have decided to place a software block on. There’s also some rumblings that the 9930 might support mobile hotspot, which is a feature that we were expecting across all of the new RIM devices, but never came to be. Again, that may just be the result of a temporary software block on the feature, so cross your fingers for an update soon. Check out our full review of the BlackBerry 9930 over here, and our hands-on time with the Torch 9860 (review coming this week!).
Initially the Bold 9930 was stuck with a $249.99 pricetag on Sprint, but I don’t think it will take long for carriers to drop the price on this traditional, iterative, and overly-familiar handset. The 9860 is priced decently at $150, but the lack of a physical keyboard will likely be a turn-off for BlackBerry diehards. If either one appeals to you, the Sprint BlackBerry Bold 9930 is available in the online store over here, while the Torch 9850 is sitting over here. Anyone springing for RIM’s new devices?
